Seaway Bank and Trust Company is the second largest black-owned bank in the U.S. Founded in 1965 on Chicago’s south side, the bank was formed to make financing accessible to African-Americans who faced discriminatory lending practices in main stream banking institutions. The late Jacoby D. Dickens, Jr. served as Chairman of the Board for 13 years and passed away in April 2013. The tribute to this extraordinary man was a central theme of the 2013 annual report to shareholders.
